These aren't the same product, and this isn't a takedown. Ramp is an excellent finance platform — cards, bill pay, and spend controls that many teams (including ours) are happy to run. But seeing AI spend by vendor is table stakes now. The harder question — the one a CFO actually asks — is whether that spend is buying more shipped software, and where the wasted dollars are. That's an audit, and it's a different job.

Ramp is a supported connector, not a competitor to replace. What we read from it: card transactions and bills, to attribute AI-vendor spend. What we never read: anything beyond what's needed to classify AI spend. The connection is read-only, and it is the same scope published on the security page. If you already run Ramp, the audit starts from data you have.

What a card and invoice feed structurally cannot see

This is not a gap in Ramp. It is a gap in what a transaction IS. A charge records that money left, for which vendor, on which date. Three things it cannot record, and all three are where AI waste lives:

  • Which seats were used. An invoice for 300 Copilot seats looks identical whether 300 people use it or 90 do. The idle seats are inside the same line item, at the same price, on the same date. Seat activity lives in the vendor admin console, which is a different system from the card.
  • What the tokens were spent on. A metered API charge arrives as one number. Which team, which service, which model tier, and whether a cheaper model would have done the same job are all invisible on the transaction and visible in the usage API.
  • Whether any of it shipped anything. No spend record, from any spend platform, contains engineering output. Joining the two is the audit.

So the honest comparison is not Ramp versus Spendassay. It is a complete record of what you paid, next to an audit of what it bought. Ramp is very good at the first. We only do the second.

Spendassay and Ramp

Do I have to choose between Ramp and Spendassay?
No, and we would rather you did not. Ramp is a supported read-only connector: we read card transactions and bills from it to attribute AI-vendor spend. Ramp records what you paid; the audit works out what it bought. Most teams that run both keep Ramp exactly as it is.
Ramp already shows my AI vendors. What does an audit add?
A transaction records that money left, for which vendor, on which date. It cannot record which of the seats on that invoice anyone opened, which team burned the tokens, or whether the spend shipped anything. Those live in the vendor admin consoles, the usage APIs and your version control system. Joining them to the invoice is the audit.
Does Spendassay need Ramp?
No. Ramp is one of several ways spend reaches the audit. Vendor invoices, admin-console billing pages and a CSV export all work, and the audit runs on a single source if that is all you have.
What does it cost next to Ramp?
They are not substitutes, so it is not either/or. Spendassay is published and self-serve: a free Snapshot, then $16 per covered engineer per month for Observe and $40 for Control. We take no percentage of your AI spend and no referral fee from any vendor, which is what lets the audit say a number you will not like.
